Welcome to the 2009 LSTA-LATM Conference

We are delighted that LATM and LSTA are returning to Shreveport for the Science and Math: Tools for the 21st Century professional development. The very talented and dynamic conference committee members have been working tirelessly to prepare for your visit.

We will once again emphasize the integration of math and science in our classrooms. The program will afford numerous opportunities for conference participants to network with other math and science educators from throughout the state. The agenda will continue the tradition of offering our members extended sessions/field experiences and high quality concurrent workshops. Consider sharing your expertise by submitting a regular session proposal. Online submissions can be made through August 15. Details can be found on the LSTA and LATM websites. A brief overview of the professional development is as follows:

Hotel Accommodations

Parking

Parking is available near the Shreveport Convention Center. The Convention Center Parking Garage is four-story, 800-car parking garage with a walkway connection to the Shreveport Convention Center. Parking is $5.00 every time a car enters the garage. Cash and credit cards (except Discover) are acceptable forms of payment. Those who choose to park at the Convention Center Parking Garage will have to pay each time they re-enter the Convention Center Parking Garage.

The Conference Committee encourages carpooling or walking short distances. We will not have shuttle service as hotels are fairly close to the Convention Center.

Session Presiders Needed

How can an individual help make this conference a success? Consider volunteering as a session presider. In order to protect the integrity of the CLU program, presiders are needed at each session to assure participants attend the entire session and are responsible for distributing the CLU’s to those who attend the entire session. Presider volunteers will be assigned to session(s) of their choosing.

Many sessions fill quickly. Presiders have the advantage of being guaranteed a seat at the session over which they are presiding! To take advantage of this opportunity and volunteer as a session presider, contact Beth Smith at bethsmith1124@gmail.com and/or use the line on the registration form to let us know. Thank you in advance for helping to make the Joint Conference a success!
